works of a world-renowned artist Shavkat Abdusalamov to be presented in St. Petersburg for the first time The exhibition “The Space of Shavkat A. The Locomotive Whistle” will open at the Sheremetyev Palace on Dec. 25. Russia’s northern capital will see around 100 works by a celebrated artist from his personal collection, a well as the Tretyakov Gallery fund and private collections. Aside from the works that once fascinated Michelangelo Antonioni, Andrey Tarkhovky, Alfred Schnittke, Tonino Guerra and other representatives of the global cultural scene, the exposition will show a collage of 11 unique works of the artist.
“Wandering about the intercontinental landscape, the celebrated artist Shavkat Abdusalamov follows a roaring train to arrive to St. Petersburg with his paintings for the first time. His temporary stop is “The Space of Shavkat A.” at the Sheremetyev Palace on Fontanka embankment. It is where his works will be homed on Christmas Eve and where they will stay for some time,” said Shazina Agrba, the curator of the exhibit. “The works provided by the Tretyakov Gallery entered the museum’s collection back in the 1970s and are now part of the Gallery’s fund. It is exceptional that we managed to form such a collection for the first time in a so long and take it out on a tour”.
In 2011, Abdusalamov was awarded with the prize of the Government of the Russian Federation for his exhibition project “The Space of Shavkat A.” at the State Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow.
The exhibition will open to the public on Dec. 26 and will last through the whole New Year's holiday period, before the collection of The Great Wanderer Takvash returns to Moscow on Feb. 17, 2013.
