31.01.2006 Vintage, antiques, retro mixture of the Victorian style and the style of the modern epoch - today with pleasure, we recollect all that was "perfectly well" forgotten many years ago. After several decades of total domination of the "techno" and emasculated minimalism, we have every reason to afford a weakness of possession of the bagatelles which came to us from the far past.
The last animation of rush to stone miniatures fell at the modern with its passion to all refined - pretentious. Perhaps the today's confident return of cameo and intaglios to the positions of bohemian favorite, which also by the way falls at the brink of centuries, might be considered predictable to some extent.
A Person, whether an ancient Greek or a modern European, wants to posses not just a pretty thing, but something mysterious, mighty – a charm. Kings and knights, emperors and generals, artists, writers, poets – have been convincing others in the magical powers of their rings.
Since ancient times, ring-signet has been the identifying symbol, and further developed to means of personification, identification and heritage; the barrier of idea, power, wealth, high-birth, belonging to the dynasty.
The banal phrase that the art is eternal, in this case fully justifies itself.
