Gennadiy Lakoba was born in 1948 at the Black Sea-coast of the Caucasus, in the capital of Abkhazia Sukhum. He graduated from the Academy of Art in Tbilisi, subsequently he continued his studies at the Academy of Art in Saint-Petersburg. He was lucky to study under the guidance of the famous Russian master of drawing Vasisliy Shukhaev. A great influence on him exerted a Georgian sculptor and tutor Merab Tsintsabadze. To a considerable extent contributed to his formation as an artistwas his personal acquaintance and creative contacts with Varvara Bubnova, art critic and painter Peter Kulchitski (a close frien of P. Filonov) whose lives and creative works were very closly linked with Abkhazia.
The works of art by Gennadiy lakoba are contained in such collections as that of the Sukhum Picture Gallery, the Arts Museum of Tbilisi, in the stocks of Picture Galleries of the Belarus Republic, in private collections of art connoisserurs in Germany, Spain, Italy, Russia, USA, Poland and other countries.
Mr. Lakoba was a memeber of the Artist's Guild of the USSR since 1980, at present he is a member of the Artist Guild of the Republic of Belarus and that of Abkhazia, he was confered the honorary title of a Merited Artist of Abkhazia, he actively participates in nation-wide and international axhibitions and has on his credit about 10 personal exhibition.
